My scientific interests are in the physics of important bio-molecular recognition processes. In particular the recognition process of smell (olfaction) that involves 10,0000′s atoms in protein receptors responding to various 10′s of atoms odorant molecules. I also look at the interactions between steroid molecules and nuclear receptors, which overlap with the sense of smell in interesting ways. In particular I wish to determine if quantum effects provide important ‘on/off’ discrimination at this atomic level of David (ligand) versus Goliath (protein) proportions.
